“Our children are our futures.” We have all heard this saying at least once in our lives; however, we seem to not really understand the true meaning of it. Many of our young children today are throwing their lives away because they are not well educated enough about the effects of certain types of drugs. The use of the club drug ecstasy is becoming a huge problem in our society today. Some are even calling it an epidemic comparing it to the crack cocaine epidemic that swept our country 20 years ago. Many of our young children today are experimenting with this new club drug; consequently, because they don’t know enough about the effects that it has on their brains. We need to better educate our young children about the use of this new club drug before this epidemic gets any worse. But educating them is only a start to solve this drug abuse problem among our young children; the solution really starts with rave promoters. Rave promoters open all night parties called “raves” which they state in their fliers that there is a “no drug tolerance” policy; however, they don’t do anything to enforce this policy. I’ve read many news articles about young children being rushed to the emergency rooms because of a drug overdoes at rave parties. I ask you Mr. President “Is it that difficult to spot a person under the influence?” I’ve spoken to a friend of mine who is a former rave participant and he told me that at many rave parties that he has attended there were booths set up by an organization called “Dance Safe” which tested ecstasy pills to check the purity of it. This not only shows that rave promoters are aware of drug usage at their events they are basically encouraging it. I’ve also written an email to the Dance Safe organization asking them why they encourage the use of ecstasy and they replied, “We do not encourage the use of ecstasy but we believe if people are to use ecstasy it is best they take pure ecstasy pills.” “How can rave promoters enforce a no drug policy with an organization like Dance Safe at its parties testing pills for purity?” We need to put a stop to these rave parties that are giving young children a place to abuse drugs freely.
