The American Revolution Between the early 1760’s and early 1780’s it was known as “The Revolutionary War Period”. During these 20 years Great Britain and the 13 colonies disagreed over the governing of the colonies. Due to these disagreements it led to the outbreak of the Revolutionary War, which would last from 1775 to 1783. Events occurring prior to and during the Revolutionary War were responsible for the Americans rebelling against Great Britain. After the French and Indian war just ended in the 1760’s, Great Britain was trying to raise money to pay for the costs for sending the British army and navy to protect the colonies from the French and there Indian allies. When the war was won the British decided that the colonists should pay taxes to help cover some of the war expenses. Such acts as The Stamp Act, The Navigation Act, and The Townshend Acts were created to raise the needed money. Colonists however did not agree with the acts and opposed them.
