DID SOPHIE HAVE A FREE CHOICE?
Did Sophie have a free choice? I am sure that the choice Sophie made, when she chose the life of her son over the life of her daughter has been the topic of many conversations. There are those who agree that she made the right choice, others who argue that she made the wrong choice, and still others who believe that she should have refused to make any choice at all. While, I agree that when you look at just that one choice, there are valid arguments for each perspective. However, to make a valid argument for or against Sophie’s choice in this situation, you must first examine the choices she made up to and from that point on.
In examining her other choices up to and from that point on we gain a better understanding of who Sophie is and what her character is like. Take for example, Sophie’s relationship with her father.
