What causes Epilepsy? Some people often wonder what the cause of epilepsy is. Epilepsy is some thing I must conquer on a daily basis. It is a brain disorder characterized by recurrent seizures (Wilner). There is no single cause of epilepsy. The is highly complex organ that controls movement, sensations, and memory together with voluntary working of other organs, such as, the heart and lungs. Nerve cells communicate by sending electrical signals through the nervous system. An abnormal discharge of electrical impulses can be a result in a seizure (www.diseasesexplain.com). There are many possible causes of epilepsy. Some of these may include the interception of blood flow to the brain caused by: Strokes, tumors, heart or blood circulation problems, diseases that may damage nerve cells in the brain; including meningititis, mumps, measles, diphtheria, and abscesses. Also, some possible causes head injury that may cause scaring to the brain tissue, certain drug or toxic substances, high fever or trauma at birth, and withdraw of substance abuse (www.diseasesexplain.com).
