Restorative Justice
Reparations are payments made to make up for maltreatment of a specific racial or ethnic group. The reparations argument is based on the claim that all African-American descendants of slaves suffer from the economic consequences of slavery and discrimination. The claim is an attempt to turn African-Americans into victims and sends a damaging message to the African-American community. Any effort to punish present day Americans for the crimes that their ancestors made is unfair. The US government should not have to pay reparations for African Americans due to many complications. Today America is a multi-ethnic nation. It is made up of many different types of people including many immigrants who are neither responsible for nor victimized by slavery.
