Elements of Reason Analysis
The End of Education, by Neil Postman, is about the “gods that serve.” Even though Postman says one must have a reason for education, he also blames the society for our weak branches of schooling. During chapter four, Postman uses The Spaceship Earth, The Fallen Angel, The American Experiment, The Law of Diversity and The Word Weavers to portray to the reader the meaning which is that people should have a god to serve for education to have a meaning.
The purpose of Chapter Four is to show readers that they must have a god to serve to succeeding their education. Postman believes that if there is no god to look forward to than education has no point. Postman’s point of view throughout the novel is that of a professor, who is just trying to get society to have a basic understanding of education. Postman wants society to fix education because he says that we do not know how to run our schools. His interest in education is long- standing because he has experience as an elementary school teacher and secondary school teacher. He is a man who extravagantly values the true meaning of education.
