To write a good essay or article the writer needs to express an idea or concept to portray to the reader. Once and idea is grasped the writer can control the articles intended audience, purpose and context, through their words and examples. In the article written by Rob Walker titled “Turn On. Tune In. Download.” He uses many points and opinions to control his article, which in turn the audience, purpose and context can finally be shown to the reader. Rob Walkers article is written to be read by many different age groups. His intended audience is mainly geared towards teenagers who take advantage of the file-sharing era. Yet within the article he incorporates many thoughts which only baby boomers might understand. This is proven when he states “Reefer Madness” which is a well known old movie which older generations could only be acquainted with. His purpose for writing this article can be interpreted on many levels; for one you can be convinced that he is defending the youth of today for file-sharing, on the other he tries to show the music industries view on file-swapping.
