Democracy and Dictatorship in Lord of the Flies

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines democracy as a government by the people, especially rule of the majority and it defines dictatorship as a form of government in which absolute power is concentrated in a dictator; this is what William Golding’s book The Lord of the Flies represents. When a bunch of boys get trapped in an island they try to survive by having two very different styles of leadership: A boy named Ralph represents democracy while another boy named Jack represents dictatorship.
