Great Gatsby
In a sense, the title of the novel is ironic; the title character is neither "great" nor "Gatsby". ... Gatsby had a dream, a dream that Jay Gatz could not achieve, so he created a new personality, a re-born man with no history and only a prosperous future ahead "The truth was that Gatsby of West Egg, Long Island, sprang from his Platonic conception of himself." Gatsby achieved his dream in the end. ... Gatsby was murdered in the means of a shotgun. ... For Wilson never knew Gatsby. ... Tom tattled on Gatsby. ... But, Gatsby knew that this was going to happen, he consented "Was Daisy driving? ... The superficial people who “crash” Gatsby parties-as Nick Carraway tells us “People were not invited, they went there”- are shallow, corrupt people who gossip about their mysterious host with a reckless attitude. ... He does not realize that Daisy is incapable of leaving her husband -Tom- behind, and failing to commit to Gatsby alone despite his sacrifices escapes him. All Gatsby wanted was for Daisy to come forward and tell him that she has loved him, and has never loved Tom. ... Gatsby’s dream has been based on a brief flirtation, which Gatsby does not want to realize but wants to live in not matter at what cost, even though it does not exist.
