The occupation of Manchuria would have helped the Russians greatly as they were late to get into the colonial race and were left in the dark in terms of goods and trade. The Russians could have established themselves as a more powerful country with their newly formed colony. The Japanese however were upset by this attempt at colonization and a war broke out. This war was brutal for both sides and both countries lost many troops. For the Russians, however, the war was particularly devastating in that their army was cut off from the mother country. They ended up losing more men than the Japanese and having to give up much of their territory to the Japanese. The war also caused a revolt in Russia over the political rights of the people and the finances of the country. The seizing of Manchuria would have allowed the Russians to step up as a country and become more of a contender in Europe. ...
