America today has changed drastically from when it was first established. We now have a strong republican leader President George W. Bush. Many that are which are from the “Far left” of the picture seem to have to difficulty to accept him as our nations leader. After the September 11th bombing in New York, President bush started the campaign to fight against terriorists. But is this of good faith for out country? Many belive it not to be. But without our freedom we have nothing. Lets start from the early times of our four fathers. George Washington was commander in chief of the Continental army during the American Revolution and first president of the United States (1789-97). He led our troops in the French and Indian war. He made drastic moves back then, which reflects on our lives everyday. Washington once said,” To be prepared for war is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace.” How arrogant is man to believe he can improve on nature? To try and change the genetic make-up of a person to make them “better” in their eyes is insane and against the laws of nature. For centuries, people have dreamed of being able to modify and improve themselves, or each other for that matter. They have wanted to be able to make themselves stronger, faster or even better looking. Today, researchers have found that they can insert preferred genes into human eggs and therefore would produce genetically enhanced humans. Scientists are very close to making it possible for us to make these modifications to humans and have even been successful in doing so in some animals. Many scientists look at it as a way to “seize control of human evolution”. Originally, the research was intended to engineer eggs so that a healthy gene will replace a disease causing gene. This would help prevent the child from obtaining a hereditary disease such as cancer or schizophrenia. Many researchers seem to think that this could be the embodiment of the of the greatest hopes as well as the worst nightmares here at the dawn of the age of genetics. Genetic engineering on humans has been banned in many nations, but yet it is still legal in the United States. What makes humans special is their individuality. It sounds as if genetic engineers are simply making a genetic copy machine.
