SQUAD DEFENSE
CONDUCT A DEFENSE BY A SQUAD CONDITIONS Given a squad, a priority of work, and locations for crew served weapons designated by the platoon leader. STANDARDS Accomplish preparation of a defensive position within the time specified in the platoon leader’s order while maintaining security, camouflage, and concealment. 1. Designate primary fighting positions for squad members. a. Fields of fire, cover, concealment. b. Fires overlap. c. Designate heavy weapons for avenues, routes, and dead space. 2. Designate alternate positions. a. Fall back positions. b. Cover same area. 3. Designate supplementary positions. a. Oriented in a different direction then primary positions. b. Should cover flanks and rear. PRACTICAL EXERCISE Show squad leaders their area of responsibility. Have them select areas for fighting positions, alternate, and supplementary. Where is the squad leader going to position himself? How are they going to control their squad? When are they going to move to other positions?
