As I read through Lord of the Flies, I saw the change in leadership and the style with which the boys were lead. After thinking about it for a while, it became clear that these were good examples of, and maybe even symbols of, various governments that countries around the world experience. From virtual anarchy to dictatorship, two ends of the political spectrum, there are good things and bad things about each. But what would have happened to the politics on the island if the boys hadn’t been rescued? As a quick review, the story started out in pure democracy, but only for the first few minutes. The boys had no leader, but voted on the issue (who would be the leader) as a group, which meant they weren’t in an anarchy . As soon as they had a leader, they became a republican democracy, much as the US has. They had a leader, who had the final word in disputes or what to do next, but all others had a say in it too. However, almost immediately, they began to turn to a virtual anarchy. Though they had a leader, they totally disregarded him. So, while things weren’t getting done, Jack decided that he wanted to be leader. He used several tactics that are used by real life politicians (and persecuting lawyers, and salespeople, not that I have anything against them), whether he realized it or not.
