Article 301
The article I chose was entitled “Classroom Management in Inclusive Settings.” The article discussed a teacher at one particular elementary school who changed her way of teaching in order to accommodate children with disabilities. Before the classroom became inclusive, it was taught with a more traditional approach. General lessons were taught to the entire class and it was mandatory for the students to remain silent and in their seats during work time. Research done under IDEA showed that all students benefit from inclusive classrooms, therefore inclusion was introduced to the school. Along with the inclusive classroom came small cooperative groups so the students could be more active and able to support each other. All of the students were no longer given the same assignment and changes were made to classroom rules so that all students could succeed.
