Nevertheless, Wilson still consented to the terms of the agreement because it contained a portion that described what he saw as his legacy, the League of Nations. ... However, many people also did not realize it was Wilson’s goal for the League of Nations to suppress any further unrest that would again lead to another travesty in world history. Wilson believed that it is America’s duty to “lead the world in the assertion of the rights of people and the rights of free nations,” (Document G) and becoming a part of this covenant of nations would help us do just that. ... Only if Wilson would have accepted some reservation on the treaty the US would have joined the League of Nations.
