Drinking alcohol and driving is extremely dangerous and has many cause and effects. In this era, drinking has become a casual, social event. ... There are numerous advertisements encouraging drinking, and posing it as a “cool” activity to participate in. ... If their friends do something, like drinking, a person is more likely to drink just so they will not feel left out. ... If a person’s peers are drinking, the person is more likely to be influenced to drink than if his peers were not drinking, simply because they do not want to feel like they are not included in the group. ... The person drinking may feel as if they would be a burden to someone if they had to go out of their way to take them home, so most of the time they will not ask. ... The person drinking may believe that they can drive perfectly when they have been drinking, and think they do not need someone to take them home. ...
Additionally, there are numerous reasons why people drink and drive, but the reasons are not worth the effects that come along with drinking and driving. Many different things could happen to a person while they are drinking and driving. Drinking causes a person to believe they can conquer many tasks they normally would not attempt if they were sober. Drinking can lead a person to believe they can drive well, when in fact, they may be swerving all over the road. ... When someone is drinking their reaction time is slower than it would be if they were not drinking. In this instance, if someone were driving recklessly because they were drinking, they would not be a good defensive driver and would be more likely to get involved in a car accident.
Other effects from drinking would be slurred speech, seeing double of every object, lose of one’s sense of distance or direction, decrease of self control, poor coordination, and loss of consciousness or even death. Any of these effects would create a barrier to a person trying to drive a vehicle.
