Othello Analysis

The play Othello is a tragic love story written by Shakespeare. ... Iago swears revenge on Othello, and decides to murder his love life. He makes up many situations in which Desdemona, Othello’s wife, seems to be cheating on Othello with Lieutenant Cassio. As the plot thickens and the scenarios point more and more accusing fingers at the young Desdemona, and Othello’s conscience becomes plagued with thoughts of her actually being dishonest. In the end, Iago actually sets up an illusion where Cassio supposedly “confesses” his crime against Othello. Iago even plants the prized handkerchief that Othello gave to Desdemona as a gift in Cassio’s bedroom, and Cassio reveals it in his confession, and gives it to his lover Bianca. As the last straw crumbles and jealousy and rage get the best of Othello, he murders Desdemona in her sleep. Then Emilia, Desdemona’s mistress Iago’s wife, realizing that her husband had committed a horrible deed, proceeds to tell everyone her lady was accused falsely, and that Othello is a murderer.
