Politically Correct Slavery sweatshop paper
When Congress Passed the Emancipation Proclamation, in 1865, officially ending Slavery in the United States many assumed harsh treatment of workers was ended once and for all. ... Even though slavery has ended, “one that is completely subservient to a dominating influence” (Merriam-Webster), the fact is barbaric inhuman treatment of workers is still going on all over the globe, and the United States is one of the chief antagonists of the problem. ... While these sweatshops are not slavery plantations, the treatment of the workers isn’t far from that of a slave. Yes, sweatshop workers are paid, but the extent of their pay and their lack of rights, even basic human rights, is what the public eye is becoming more and more aware of and disturbed by. Companies such as Nike, The Gap, Reebok, and Cathy Lee Gifford are the most common names associated with sweatshop labor. Seeing this some consumers have turned their backs to these companies in order not to promote sweatshop labor, and in turn free themselves from the problem; right? ... Now on to the treatment of the sweatshop workers. ... Not only do the sweatshop workers have to work these harsh hours with low pay, but also they do not even receive any breaks during the day (Applebaum).
