These and many other descriptions give the reader a sense of how beautiful the landscape is, but they also give us a sense of how unproductive the lands given to the Native Americans are. In giving us an idea of how the natural landscape is, Hillerman sets us up for describing how the Navajo have adapted to the land on which they live to make it beneficial to them. ... In reading Skinwalkers, my memory was jarred to help me remember a place that I have only seen one time as a child. ...
