Between 1892 and 1954, over 12 million immigrants passed through Ellis Island in hope of becoming a part of America’s melting pot. People considered America to be a land of opportunity. The melting pot refers to the time when millions of people from many different ethnic groups traveled to America to find work, and a place that they could call home. ... The Red Turban Rebellions also caused many Chinese people to move to America.
