The Health Project that I have decided to do, encourages me to step more outside myself than I already do and really focus on real life issues that people are dealing with at the moment. I always try and put others and their well-being before myself and this is another wonderful opportunity to do so. After researching the North Philadelphia neighborhood that we are working with, I think there is a better sense of why this particular project has to be carried out. For instance, after reading the demographics about salary made in the area, it is clear to me that financially, people may need more assistance than say Manyunk or Old City. The demographics for economic-socio status are a little more financially secure. The chart showed that most of the houses are single-parent and/or single parent income. It also explained that there were approximately three children in each household. I was thinking about how stressful money situations would be. It seems to me that living in America on $20,000 per year with three children would be incredibly tight financially, that it would really be a huge burden for someone to have medical bills on top of everything else. So therefore, I think that when we talk about helping victims of cancer within the community, financially, we are lessening the heaviness of some excess loads.
