Fern Hill is a magnificent poem written in 1946 by Dylan Thomas. It is an extremely intricate poem with many images and symbols. This essay will describe the image of a child growing up from a little boy to an adult. This takes the form of three parts. The child is happy and innocence, when he begins to grow up innocently, and when he loses his innocence as an adult. First of all, Dylan Thomas talks about the child as being “young and easy”. The child has no cares in the world. He happily plays in the farmyard enjoying the brisk and cheery world around him. Dylan also says “time let me hail and climb”. The child was able to grow and explore in the freedom of his environment. He was able to make his own choices, though he wasn’t concerned to where the consequences would lead him.
