Eli Whiteney’s invention could make southern cotton crop finally profitable. Eli Whitney invented of the cotton gin! This invention will produce 50 lbs of cleaned cotton. For the first time you can consider the southern cotton to be profitable. Eli is producing as many cotton gins as he can, installing them all over Georgia, and the South. He is charging the farmers 2/5 of the cotton if the farmers want him to gin their cotton fields. Now other farmers are producing their own cotton gins, because the farmers claim that 2/5 of the crop is an exorbitant tax. They found a loop hole in Eli’s patent, and now are making own versions of the gins and claiming that they are new inventions. Struggling to make a profit Eli has been forced to license the gins at a lover cost. Below is a picture of the cotton gin invented by Eli Whitney. This invention has increased the demand of slaves, because now that the cotton can be separated from its seeds at a fast rate, there is more demand for slaves to pick the cotton that is to be deseeded.
