seize the day: movie critique
Robin Williams plays Tommy Wilhelm in “Seize the Day” by Saul Bellow. Abraham Maslow’s theories is emphasized in this movie by the director. Abraham Maslow created his now famous “Hierarchy of needs”. He laid out five broad layers: the physiological needs, the needs for safety and security, the need for love and belonging, the need for esteem, and the need to actualize the self. In the layer of physiological needs, Maslow believed that these were individual needs, and that a lack of will lead to a very specific hunger for things which have in the past provided it. Tommy achieved his physiological need. He had breakfast with his father many times in the restaurant. The second layer of needs comes into play when the physiological needs are largely taken care of.
