Queer as Us
We all gathered around the Baked Lays, Diet Cokes, and the trendy veggie trays, drenched in Kenneth Cole, DKNY, Diesel, FCUK, and D&G getting ready for the “big event”, no not the prom, it was the season premier of Showtime’s “Queer as Folk. ... It’s important to note the show’s disclaimer here, “Queer as Folk depicts the lives of a group of gay friends and is not meant to be a generalization of all gay society.” Point well taken, but for us “Queer as Folk” hits very close to home. ... The boys on “Queer as Folk” do not lead the most wholesome lifestyles, but honestly my group of friends and I aren’t living the Brady Bunch Dream either. ... Some of the hardest things we learn, about first loves (or lusts that we confuse with love), that first gay club, coming out, etc… have always been something raw and scary, with nothing to prepare us for it, but to have a TV show give a perspective where there has never been one before was pretty amazing.
