CHild

Alan Sam The child that I used for my case study is named Alan Sam. He was born on December 7, 2001 and he is 1 year and 8 months old. Alan’s parents are both Cambodian, their economic status is low-income family, and they are not divorced. His parents’ highest education level is high school in Cambodia. They speak mostly Cambodian at home b/c they have a limited English vocabulary. His dad works at Goodman during the night shift and his mom sells vegetables at the temple for extra money every Saturday. Alan has one brother named Mickey. He is 13 years old and does not live with the immediate family. He lives with his grandmother because she lives in a better school district. Alan’s relatives that live in Houston are very close with the family. They help take care of him, for example by baby-sitting and buying things his parent’s can’t afford for him. Alan is being raised in a family that strongly embraces their culture. They go to the Cambodian temple every Sunday, they eat traditional Cambodian meals everyday, and they speak a lot of Cambodian. I did my naturalistic observation at his cousin’s house because his mom was dropping him off there for babysitting.
