Model of stress
Alexander et al (2003), states that there are four models to describe stress and its effects, they are: · Stimulus-based model · Response-based model · The transactional model · The phenomenological approach. With the stimulus model the person is viewed as being constantly exposed to external environment ‘stresses’ in their daily life, for example family responsibilities, bereavement or disablement. The response-based model uses stress to describe a person who has experienced a life threatening or difficult situation. So the stress is the person’s response to threat. The transactional model is a behavioural model, the individual seeks a meaning to a potential threatening situation and tries to minimise the distress. ... The phenomenological approach to stress rests largely on the individuals view and description of their own experience of stress.
