Southern Society
-Southern Society- The different classes in the South were consisted of 5 main groups. They highest of them were the plantation owners. They owned slaves and many and many acres of land. Right under them were the small farmers. They usually didn’t have slaves and only owned small plots of lands. Next were the poor whites that really didn’t have land to grow anything on. Under them were the free African Americans. They were mostly cooks, waiters, and simple jobs like that. Even though they were free they didn’t have rights like voting. And at the bottom of the list were the slaves who were owned and worked for others. The economy had a lot to do with crops.
