Relationship of Power
When speaking of power relationships, we sometimes assume that it refers to an abusive relationship between a couple, such as the one in Isabel Allende’s “If You Touched My Heart. ... ” Her short story focuses on the power relationship between two men: an ex-employee and his former boss. These two short stories, when compared to each other, demonstrate that not all power relationships involve a couple; it can include relationships between co-workers, friends, and even two strangers. The dissimilarity between the ways the dominant character display their power in a relationship also establishes that not all power relationships are parallel to each other.
