The guidance of Religion
Last Feb. 8, 2004, I had the privileged of conducting a survey among our youth sector. This survey involves our young voters and would be voters. It was a really nice experience knowing their different views and insights about the upcoming National Elections in our country. Talking with the youth from Barangay Langgam, I somehow felt that there are a lot of people out there who are not really interested with the elections. They view the elections as just another waste of time and energy. Out of the 5 people we interviewed, only 2 of them are registered voters. The state of the youth today is getting worse. They are not anymore interested with the way things are going. They believe that somehow, our country doesn’t have a chance of surviving. I really cannot blame them. I for one believe that with our current line up of politicians, our country would definitely go down hill. But this didn’t stop me from getting registered and exercise my right to vote. When we asked them why they were not able to get registered for this upcoming election, most of them answered that they didn’t have time and they got tired because of the long lines and they also said that it was very difficult. These things should not hinder us from exercising our rights as Filipinos. These only shows that the youth sector today are composed of mostly stubborn and people who doesn’t have dreams. The youth we interviewed came from families from the lower class C of our country. These families are the ones who are in dire need of help from our government. They should be the ones that our government should focus on. Exercising their right to vote should give them hope, but instead, they think that voting is just a waste of their time.
