The point that im going to prove is that capital punishment should be abolished because of three main reasons : there are many other alternatives, there is lack of deterrence, and it’s an unusual punishment, which violates the eighth amendment. ... Williams, Chief Police in Los Angeles stated, “I am not convinced that capital punishment, in and of itself, is a deterrent to crime because most people do not think about the death penalty before they commit a violent or capital crime. ... Lastly, the way they carry out the death penalty, whether its by lethal injection or lethal gases, electrocution, or by any other way, it’s a cruel and unusual way of punishment which violates the eighth amendment.
