A Midsummer Night’s Dream Love This play shows the difference between true, genuine love ( Lysander and Hermia) and love with no substance( Oberon and Titania). Lysander and Hermia share the same feelings; ( Hermia to Lysander) (act 1,scene 1,line 169)‘My good Lysander, I swear to thee by Cupids strongest bow, By his best arrow with the golden head, By the simplicity of Venus’ doves.’ She says this to prove her love to Lysander and let him not doubt her. Unlike Helena and Demetrius, Helena is in love with Demetrius whom heart is for another (Hermia), ( Demetrius to Helena)( act 2,scene 1,line 188)‘I love thee not, therefore pursue me not’ and (act 2,scene 1,line 213)‘For I am sick when I look on thee.’ Demetrius tries to persuade Helena that he has no feelings but Helena does not give up,( act 2,scene1,line 243) ‘I’ll follow thee, and make a heaven of a hell, to die upon the hand I love so well’ FairyTale Revolves around the woods, where fairies live, and magical things happen; meddling with true love, using a flower: ( act 2,scene 1,line 169-172) ‘Fetch me that flower, the herb I show’d thee once; The juice of it on sleeping eyelids laid will make or man or woman madly dote Upon the next live creature it sees.’ Oberon use’s this to make titania love him, to make Demetrius love Helena.
