Serial Killers
Serial Killers: Final Draft The act of murder may be the pinnacle of all deviant behavior. However when one kills more than a single victim, their deviant behavior is elevated as they are labeled by society as a serial killer. But as the majority of society views their actions as deviant, serial killers themselves often do not feel they have conducted behavior that is unacceptable. ... When examining the actions of serial killers using the labeling theory, differential association and social construction, you may be able to gain an understanding of what causes and why we crave their deviant behavior from a sociological perspective. ... Serial murder is defined as “the premeditated murder of three or more victims committed over time, in separate incidents, in a civilian context, with murder activity being chosen by the offender,” (Schecter 57). ... Although demographics of serial killers are mostly based on the majority of offenders, some generalizations appear accurate. Active serial killers most often are “white, heterosexual males in their late twenties or early thirties, who tend to prey on women and children of their same race,” (Fuiro 37).
