Greed A seed from love
Jordan Yu English 110 07 Greed: a seed from Love (is love enough? ... I find poetry fascinating, for the meaning behind each poem varies from person to person. There is a deliberate method in writing poetry, which does not necessarily obscure the reader from the moral or theme of the poem, but uses techniques, such as metaphors, which challenge the reader to analyze the poems in order to grasp the meaning and feel the deep emotions of what the poet is experiencing. ... The theme I have found underlying the poem of Daphne Marlatt’s, “(is love enough?)”, is that love is the cause and effect of all evil. The reason why the title of the poem is put as it is, is because Marlatt is asking if love can counteract on all of the evil in the world to balance it out? Since everyone knows that love exists, we all have the urge to try it. The poem tries to demonstrate that with love comes the seed of greed. Marlatt’s poem shows how love can have a snowball effect for different pleasures in life such as money and power. ... It is human nature to love and feel passionate about something. In Daphne Marlatt’s poem, “(is love enough?)”, love is being described as the reason we experience life. Although love is hard to describe and it varies from person to person, we all know love exits. The theme behind Marlatts poem is that without love, we would not understand the world: experiencing love makes the bitterness in the world more bitter and the sweetness of the world more sweet. The poem starts off by expressing the great feeling of rejuvenation after a night of making love: this is done by using a “sparrow preening a far-stretched wing, light full of pleasure” as character in love.
