Analysis of the Superplume Episode
The Mid-Cretaceous superplume episode was very important in shaping the world we live in, even though it occurred about 120 million years ago. The superplume episode was basically a large “pulse” of heat that comes from the earth’s core and rises to the surface causing an increase in volcanic activity. ... The evidence for the super plum episode was discovered on December 13th 1989 on the ship called JOIDES. ... It showed that the rocks from the mid Jurassic period had been buried by volcanic material from a “superplume”.
