WHY DOES THEOLOGY EXIST

There are many people who believe in God and many people who believe that there is a god. Some people who believe in God take it to another level, and do more than preach to God, they try to escape reality and are consumed with the church and not their private “reality” lives. In the book by Episcopal priest Fr. Leo Booth’s When God Becomes a Drug, there are several points made by Booth. The main concept or thesis in Chapter 2 is a woman who wrote a letter to Booth talking about her religious addictions and abuse. Booth described religious addiction as “using God, a church, or a belief system as an escape from reality, in an attempt to find or elevate a sense of self-worth or well-being.” Booth goes on and talks about how addictions, especially religious addictions has very little to do with the substances involved in being an addict; in this case God.
