Alex Marinoni Mr. Longo Alexander The Great Essay 3/30/04 Per. 3 Alexander the Great was simply powerful and wealthy. But, is he so great? People questioned if he is so great. I don’t know how people didn’t see how great he was with all of his accomplishments. I mean in thirteen years he amassed the largest empire in the entire ancient world. This empire was so big that it covered 3,000 miles worth of land. I mean all of his accomplishments. First off, he takes the throne of king of Macedonia at age 20, in 336 BCE. Then, in 334 BCE, he conquered the Persian Empire (something his father Phillip the Second could never do). It took Alexander three hard fought battles, but he did it. He defeated the Persians at the Tigris River. He got the Persian Empire and the legendary Babylon.
