Josh Clarkson Mr. Bloch 1/22/04 Final Exam Project Apocalypse Now Selecting a film for this project was no easy task. With countless excellent movies to choose from, I was hard-pressed to decide. However, Apocalypse Now stood out for many reasons, not the least of which being the fact that I had researched it extensively for our cinematic story-tellers project earlier in the semester. Apocalypse Now is an extremely well written, directed and shot film about a very conflicted and tumultuous episode of American history, the Vietnam War. I also feel that this film, perhaps more than any other, revolutionized the way in which American movies were subsequently filmed. Specifically, it excels in its outstanding cinematography and epic visual spectacles which were achieved without the use of computer-generated special effects. This film also stands out due to the numerous scenes which were quite revolutionary for their time, such as Martin Sheen’s introductory monologue, the air cavalry’s helicopter-borne attack on the enemy-held beach and many others.
