Perils of Obedience

Logan Rowe Prof. Leatherwood English 101 9-8-03 Response to “Perils of Obedience” After I read the experiment on “Obedience to Authority” I felt very disappointed in human nature. When this experiment was introduced to several groups of people such as psychiatrists, graduate students, teachers of behavioral sciences, and other college students, they predicted, as I would have, that almost none of the “teachers” would inflict the punishment to the end. They all thought the teachers would disobey the experimenter, who was the authority in the experiment. They were wrong. The outcomes were surprising, disappointing and even shocking. This experiment was held in a laboratory, a place where you should be able to feel a sense of trust and protection. The fact that scientists understand the human body can cause one to believe that no one will be seriously harmed.
