Architecture… what is it? This enigmatic question has evolve from shelter to esthetic to philosophy. We experienced it all. The rational man who creates logical space as in "I think therefore I am" vs. the irrational man who creates intuitive spaces as in "I feel therefore I am". To survive in this world, the unknown and mystical approaches are usually disregarded as "nonsense". The material world supersedes the spiritual. The spiritual world is the inner self, the impractical. In Taoism, this is referred as the "outer square" as opposed to the "inner square" of Confucianism. It houses the soul which most of us have sold in order to be accepted in society. Only those who keep their beliefs and implement their mystical ideas truly find their freedom. Frank Gehry has not only found his expression in architecture, but has also proven to the rational world that mysticism exists. An earlier example is Rudolf Steiner's Goetheanum, built in 1926, at Dornach, Switzerland.
