Network design for 3 departments between 3 different buildings

Introduction: The purpose of our project is to design the best local area network to interconnect three departments in a building with another department that is located in another building with supplying internet access to all the departments. Therefore, the design specifications of the LAN will be explained in detail, including the communication media used and the distribution of all access points, switches, servers etc… At the end, we will calculate the total cost of the design. Project Description: Connection between the two buildings: The connection between the two buildings is implemented using fiber optics. ... Since we have 200m between the two buildings, so it is better to use this kind of cable in order to profit from its characteristics and advantages. As for the cost, fiber optic is more expensive than other types of cables but we strongly feel that we can sacrifice some extra money to obtain a higher bit rate transmission, less traffic on the network and a better LAN performance. Connection between the departments in the 1st building: The best way to interconnect the 3 departments with respecting the requirements that the traffic generated by users of one department cannot affect another department’s LAN unless accessing a resource on that other department’s LAN and by having access of each department to the resources of all other departments is by using a layer 2 switch 10/100Mbps that handle CAT5E (E stands for enhanced) UTP cables that can support a bit rate up to 1 Gigabit per second with 2 RJ-45 Gigabit ports (1000Mbps) in each department that can achieve a speed of 2000Mbps in full duplex mode. ... I chose this type of switches because they provide full-line speed, dedicated bandwidth for all connections and when two switching nodes are communicating, they are connected with a dedicated channel between them, so there is no contention for network bandwidth with other nodes.
