McDonald's Ethnography

Ethnography I arrive in McDonald’s parking lot at approximately 12:30pm on Tuesday, September 17th. Before I even exit my car, I smell the unique smell of McDonald’s. It’s a cross between the french fry grease and hamburgers. The smell causes me to become even more hungry than I already am. I get out of my car and turn toward the building and the first noticeable thing is the giant red roof and the extravagant yellow arch. With the smell of the food lingering even greater now, I quickly enter through the glass doors. I walk up to the register and I have to wait behind two others because the restaurant only has one register open. While I stand waiting for my turn I examine the attire of the employees. They all have on green shirts with a collar with the yellow arch symbol on it. They all also have a name tag on the left side of the shirt. For pants they have on black, somewhat baggy, trousers with black shoes to match. To top off the outfit, either a green baseball cap or visor is worn. Some have more badges than others on their hat. I guess it symbolizes how long they have worked there, or how good of a worker they are. While still waiting in line, now with just one person in front of me, an older man with a white shirt appears behind the register.
