Friday Night Lights
The Atmosphere Football season is long awaited in most small towns. For most people the next nine Fridays will be filled with the excitement of high school football. Only the true fan sticks out the heat, rain, snow, and cold. Often it’s not uncommon to get over 1,000 fans to a game, even when the town only has a population of less than 2,000. What this creates is an atmosphere that can’t be explained, but only experienced. Almost every farmer who should probably be out harvesting crops is in at the game watching his son, relative, or family friend play. The band comes marching in, taking its place next to the student section around the 20-yard line. The cheerleaders set up a banner by the goalposts as 75 high school football players burst through their banner to the sound of their fight song and out of control cheers.
