Though I will listen to country music every once in a blue moon, no song that was appropriate for this project popped into mind. So I went on-line, conducted a search on cowboy music, and came across the song “I Want To Be A Cowboy’s Sweetheart”. I couldn’t resist choosing this particular song even though I hadn’t even listened to it (I was very unaware of the yodeling in the song).
The song in sung by Patsy Montana, which I feel, is a typical cowgirl name. ... After doing a little research on Patsy Montana, only in order to have some type of documentation in this paper, I found out that she was the first woman to have a million-selling single, which happens to be this song! ... I also found out that her name was Ruby Blevins and not Patsy Montana, just as I had suspected. ... I thought it was great that she was the type of balanced independent woman she was in a time when there was no such thing taken seriously.
The song contains a few western motifs that jump out at you, like the phrase “a cowboy’s sweetheart”, and others that we simply feel are apart of everyday life.
