A Lesson To Learn

There seems to be a time in everyone’s life when they grasp their “personal legend”. It could be anything from a realization to keep one’s life on track, or a clear cut path to a goal they have known only in dreams; whether or not a person follows this goal is the choice that has to be made. In The Alchemist, Santiago was presented with a decision as to whether or not he wanted to risk everything and go for his dreams, or to continue being a shepherd. Comparisons can be made between Santiago and I. We both had people along the way who pointed us in the right direction, we each possessed negative feelings and thoughts towards failing our “quest”, and in the end, we both accomplished a goal never to be conceived from our pasts. The ability to choose is what makes us human, and this quality may be used to benefit or to mislead ourselves.
