The Rivalry It was a brisk, windy day in the middle of October. The year was 2003 and the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees were about to square off in game six of the American League Championship Series (ALCS). If the Yankees won, they would advance to the World Series. If the Red Sox won the would force a game seven. This was the most important game of the year for both teams and I was going to witness it up close and personal. About a month before the game, my cousin, Nick, told me he could get tickets for the ALCS if the Red Sox made it. One of his father’s best friends had promised him three tickets for one of the games. He was a season ticket holder and he had the first chance to buy tickets. My cousin decided to invite me and one of our best friends, Dave. The three of us have been friends since we were little and have always dreamed of seeing the Red Sox play the Yankees at Fenway Park. Our dream came true when they advanced to the ALCS. Now we could prepare for the game. A week before the game, the three of us headed to the mall to get some much-needed Red Sox memorabilia. We searched the mall and each of us bought Red Sox gear. I bought a Trot Nixon jersey, Nick bought a Pedro Martinez jersey, and Dave bought a Red Sox hooded sweatshirt. Now we were ready to show our Red Sox pride. We knew this was the year the Sox would make it to the World Series. They couldn’t fail again! It was two days before the game. I was more hyped for that game than I had been for anything before. I had always imagined sitting in the stands and catching a game-winning, bottom of the ninth home run by one of the Red Sox. I couldn’t help but imagine this again. The Red Sox were due for a World Series appearance. They had to rid Boston of “The Curse of the Bambino.” Babe Ruth has haunted Red Sox baseball for far too long!
