With the first Idol, of the Tribe, Bacon states, "human understanding is like a false mirror, which, receiving rays irregularly, distorts and discolors the nature of thing by mingling its own nature with it" (Fiero page 79) I believe Bacon is trying to say that human understanding is self reflective.
