Man versus/and Machine

A couple of weeks ago we watched two movies called 2001: A Space Odyssey and Star Wars. Both of these movies are about people and machines. In those films people represent humanity and machines – technology. I think that in Kubrick’s movie the theme is man versus machine because there is a conflict between the crew of the spaceship and the on board computer H.A.L. 9000. The computer malfunctions because he thinks that the crew might put the mission in danger by shutting him down. Then he starts killing the members of the crew. The red eye in his monitoring camera suggests that he is the villain because red is associated with evil.
