African-American Newspaper Reading
For this assignment, I chose to read an edition of the Toledo Blade from Thursday July 14th 1887. I chose this particular paper because my father is from Toledo, Ohio and the paper came out the day after my birthday only one hundred and three years prior. The Toledo Blade published by the Toledo Blade Company was a weekly paper that came out every Thursday. By today’s standards it was a small paper with eight pages with eight columns each and I thought it read more like an almanac at times rather than a newspaper. Also at the header of the news paper was a little box that said that there were 100,000 papers circulated last week. ... Another misconception was that not all of the stories were about the struggle of the African-American at the time, most of the stories could have been found in any newspaper! ...
In the realm of Politics I found this paper to be against the President, Grover Cleveland.
