After Long Absence
Disagreements between parents and children are an everyday occurrence in most families. ... In After Long Absence the narrator is returning to her childhood home, and is once again confronted with the memories of an unhappy child-hood overshadowed by the fanatic religiousness of her parents.
After Long Absence is adapted from a short story by Janette Turner Hospi-tal, it was published in 1986 by UQP, and it first appeared in Dislocations. It tells the story of a woman, who after long absence returns to Australia and her parents, with whom she no longer has much in common.
